Company Profile

Adair County Mutual was organized in 1887 by a group of seven farmers because established, large insurance companies from the East Coast were not interested in insuring  farm risks in the Midwest.  If the eastern companies did provide insurance, rates were prohibitive. The seven founding farmers decided to start an insurance company, incorporating to conduct business in 1888 as "Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Association of Adair County." Around the turn of the century, the name of the company was changed to Adair County Mutual Insurance Association.

The company now has approximately $315 million insurance in force, with a reserve for members' protection of nearly $1 million.

The company’s charter is located in Adair County. In addition to writing in Adair County, the mutual is licensed to write in Adams, Union, Madison, Dallas, Guthrie, Audubon and Cass counties.
